Surrounding local area

Middleton is fantastically situated to enjoy the bird and wildlife watching opportunities on the Suffolk Coast. There are a number of paths from the village towards the coast and the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. The area along the coast is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are circular walks to enjoy from the village. If you need a little refreshment on the way head to the Eel’s Foot in Eastbridge before continuing your walk. The Middleton Bell will give you a warm welcome when you get back.

There are a number of pretty coastal towns to explore both north and south of Middleton. Heading north, Walberswick and Southwold are each side of the mouth of the River Blyth and there is a foot ferry connecting the two. Walberswick is famous for crabbing whilst Southwold is home to the Adnams Brewery amongst other things. Aldeburgh and Orford are on the River Alde. Aldeburgh is closely associated with the music of Benjamin Britten. Snape Maltings is further up the Alde and is home to the concert hall and Aldeburgh Music along with a number of shops, restaurants and cafes.

There is a huge amount to explore along the Suffolk Coast and you can have a busy time. However, when you return at the end of the day to the cottage you can relax in the comfortable surroundings and take some time to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Guest reviews

This delightful cottage has been renovated to a very high standard with thoughtful attention to detail, good lighting, beautiful bed linen, comfortable sofas, lots of sockets strategically placed and every kitchen utensil that anyone could possible need whilst on holiday. We would certainly recommend Nil Desparandum to all our friends. Thank you for a super-relaxing few days and the sun shone!!

This property was well appointed in a lovely quiet location. A very good choice for either a few restful days or as a good base for exploring the Suffolk coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful inside and out, wonderful peaceful cottage but in easy reach of Southwold, Minsmere etc, will definitely stay again.

This was just a short break so we could explore this part of Suffolk. The cottage was easy to find and very comfortable. It was well equipped and the welcome bottle of wine was appreciated. The back garden was completely enclosed and dog proof which we found helpful. Middleton is a nice village with an excellent, dog friendly pub. However, the farm shop mentioned in the cottage details is further away than a 5 minute walk.
