The Aldeburgh Carnival
Aldeburgh - August
Back to list
Aldeburgh is fortunate in being one of a handful of towns that has managed to continue the carnival tradition, when so many others have been forced to give it up. Every year, the town is transformed for its annual three-day carnival, thought to be at least 170 years old. Traditionally the last day (Monday) is the most fun, with a float parade down the high street, and a sea front full of food and craft stalls for you to enjoy at your leisure, with fairground rides a bit further south.
In the evening after dark a lantern procession takes place, through the town towards the beach, where the night is rounded off with a firework display. Lanterns can be purchased from shops on the high street throughout the day.
This year the Carnival is taking place on Saturday, 19th; Sunday, 20th and Monday, 21st August. 'Amazing Aldeburgh' is the theme.
