Benjamin Britten (1913-76) was one of the leading composers of the 20th Century and possibly Britain's best known composer. The Red House is the home Britten shared with his partner, the tenor Peter Pears, for the last two decades of his life and where he wrote many of his most famous works. The site also includes Britten's evocative Library, the Studio where he composed, an award-winning Archive building housing the Britten-Pears Foundation’s extensive collections, and peaceful gardens. Open all year round, and with an extensive programme of events.
