Property details

Situated on one of Suffolk's prettiest and quaintest villages, this beautifully converted studio is the perfect place for a romantic treat, a relaxing break or an indulgent base from which to explore the local area.

The studio at Ayres End, once the inspiration-giving work place of author, Hammond Innes, is a thatched building set within the charming, landscaped gardens of Ayres End House. The garden, originally designed in the 1920's, is beautifully planned and maintained, which gives this stylish studio its completely unique and idyllic setting. The large open-plan studio has been converted and furnished to the very highest standards. In the centre is a handsome, mahogany super king size bed with a spacious sitting area and a stunning open fireplace with contemporary, realistic electric log fire. A large wall unit forms a clever self-contained kitchen, which can be closed up when not in use. This practical kitchen is fully equipped. The studio also contains a luxurious wet room, with underfloor heating, wash basin and wc.

Guest are welcome to use the area of the owner’s garden in front of Ayres End Studio as well as having exclusive access to the medieval-style summer house – the perfect spot for morning coffee before a day's exploration.

The Bell Inn, a mere 400 yards from Ayres End Studio, offers home cooked food in a traditional pub setting.

Surrounding local area

The village of Kersey, straddling its famous "splash", with St Mary's church crowning the hill on the south side, is regarded as one of the most picturesque villages in East Anglia. It possesses an important collection of medieval buildings and is situated amidst rolling Suffolk countryside between Dedham, Sudbury and Lavenham.

Set by the River Stour, Dedham is in the heart of Constable Country. The attractive high street is lined with Georgian-fronted houses, old inns and a large Art and Crafts Centre. The magnificent 15th church was built from the wealth of the medieval cloth industry. Constable's work, The Ascension can be seen within St Mary's Parish Church.

Hadleigh is an ancient market town, it is surrounded by 246 listed buildings and offers plenty of history to explore. Don't forget to visit Tito's Italian restaurant, serving authentic Italian food.

Nestled in the heart of the stunning Suffolk countryside, Lavenham is one of England's finest medieval wool villages. Medieval charm can be found around every corner with its winding streets, thatched cottages and some 320-listed timber framed buildings. This unique village was created some 750 years ago by Henry III when he granted Lavenham "market status" which stimulated the most prosperous period in the village's history. Today Lavenham is a thriving village with art galleries, restaurants, cafes, pubs and lots of interesting buildings to visit.

Long Melford
As its name implies, this wool town has a long, long High Street, populated by charming independent shops, vibrant art galleries, antique centres, cafes, restaurants and, of course, typical Suffolk Inns. So, given all of this combined with beautiful architecture and amazing countryside, it is no wonder that this is such a desirable place.

“We very recently returned from a stay at Ayres End Studio. The property was immaculate with everything provided for and of the highest quality. We had a memory foam mattress, an extremely large TV and even a fully stocked kitchen! We were blown away when we arrived. Although everything was exceptional, the best was yet to come. It has snowed hard through the night on the day we were due to leave, while we attempted to leave on time we had to abandon our car at the bottom of Kersey’s steep hill. Ayres End owners helped us unpack the abandoned car, insisted on looking after us and allowed us back into the Studio for as long as we liked until the roads were cleared. We were taken aback by their kindness and as hosts they are a true credit to Suffolk Hideaways.”
